What is Dyslexia?

The word ‘dyslexia’ comes from the Greek and means ‘difficulty with words’.

Dyslexia is a combination of abilities and difficulties that affect the learning process in one or more of reading, spelling, writing and maths.

It is particularly related to mastering and using written language, which may include alphabetic, numeric and musical notation.

Typically, a dyslexic child is lagging behind his/her peers and chronological age in reading and writing, yet otherwise appears to be bright and intelligent.

Dyslexic people aren’t “thick”!!

Dyslexia is not linked to low intelligence. Dyslexics might be slow or bright, even gifted in certain areas. All have strengths, some of which are:
